DIY glove-based tutor indicates muscle-memory potential

A senior editor at IEEE Spectrum worked on a DIY project that enabled his 11-year-old son to improve his touch typing by use of a vibrating glove. His son was already "good and quick on the keyboard," said his father, David Schneider, but his finger technique could have used some more training. Schneider tried making a glove to serve as a training tool. As the program is designed, a user can see what he or she is typing. A button allows the person to advance to another word. "Python and Tkinter made all this easy enough to program with less than 200 lines of code," said Schneider. Was this effort a success? Schneider said, "he reported that spending a few minutes getting his fingers vibrated indeed helped him to get the sequence of keystrokes right." Schneider also said, "There's a slider for the user to vary the rate at which the program spews out letters," and his son "was more inclined to play with the slider, trying to challenge himself to keep up with rapid-fire bursts of letters. Clearly, I had missed a critical concept in modern pedagogy: gamification." This DIY project is nonetheless noteworthy as one more instance of what interesting and helpful applications might be possible with wearable computers. Earlier this year, IEEE Spectrum had a story about the work of Caitlyn Seim, a Ph.D student who showed Schneider's colleague a haptic glove; inside each of the five finger holes she had sewn a flat vibration motor. The five vibrators were wired to a microcontroller on the back of the hand. Schneider wrote that "my colleague Ariel Bleicher visited Thad Starner's lab at Georgia Tech and tried out an intriguing kind of wearable technology: a computerized glove equipped with five vibration motors, one perched atop each finger. Wearing the glove for a couple of hours while attending to other tasks, she acquired sufficient 'muscle memory' to play 61 notes of Beethoven's 'Ode to Joy' with hardly any effort." Seim is conducting research focused on how to apply wearable, tactile interfaces to facilitate passive haptic learning and passive haptic rehabilitation. Earlier this year, Bleicher wrote in IEEE Spectrum that Starner and colleagues believe that the repeated buzzing from the glove creates a muscle memory that enables a wearer to learn to play a song with less practice than without haptic stimulation. "They have also studied the glove's effect on people with spinal cord injuries and found that it can help them regain some sensation and dexterity in their hands. The researchers are now beginning experiments to test whether haptic gloves can teach braille typing and stenography—evidence that the technology could impart not just patterns but also language."

Startups offer banking for smartphone users

The current banks are small enough to match with, in the palm of your hand. Startups, such as Moven and Simple, offer banking that's designed specifically for smartphones, enabling users to track their spending on the go. Some things haven't changed. Like traditional banks, customers open a checking account, get a debit card and are able to make check deposits and pay their bills. Like many Internet banks before them, they have no maintenance or overdraft fees, there are no physical branches and depositing cash is a challenge. What makes Moven and Simple different is their apps. "It makes them mindful of what they spend," says Alex Sion, president and co-founder of Moven, comparing it to fitness activity trackers. "What Fitbit and Nike Fuel does for your health, we do for your wallet." Both services automatically categorize purchases to provide an overview of what was spent on groceries, dining out or other areas over time. With Simple, users can set goals, such as saving up for a new bike, and the app will show how much needs to be saved every day to meet that goal. Moven and Simple say most of their users are between the ages of 25 and 36, an age group that is often ignored by bigger banks who are more concerned with customers who have more money in their accounts. Portland, Oregon-based Simple, says it has more than 100,000 customers. Moven, which is based in New York, declined to say how many customers it has. The two companies make money from fees merchants pay every time customers swipe their debit card. The accounts are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, but Moven and Simple don't actually hold the money that customers deposit. Moven, which launched for public use in March, partners with CBW Bank which holds the deposits. Simple, which was acquired by Spanish bank BBVA earlier this year, partners with The Bancorp Bank for its deposits. The two services are not for everyone. Neither one of them offer savings accounts. But both Moven and Simple say that they may be offered in the future. Neither mobile bank lends money, so those seeking personal loans or a credit card need to look elsewhere. But no-frills banking is enough for some. John Carr opened a Simple account in 2012 when the service was still in being tested by a small group of customers. He quickly closed his accounts at Bank of America where he was getting charged overdraft and ATM fees. He keeps a savings account at a military bank in Texas. Carr, 35, has his pay sent directly to his Simple account. To pay his rent, he uses Simple's bill pay function to send a paper check to his old-school landlord every month. When he wanted to save $1,600 for a new laptop, he used the app to come up with a six-month budget. The app also made him realize he was spending too much on fast food and gas. So he cut down on eating out and now rides the subway to get to his information technology job at a Los Angeles movie studio. "It's saved me so much," says Carr.

Angel di Maria set for £60 million transfer to Manchester United after saying goodbye to Real Madrid team-mates

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti observed that Argentina winger did not take part in training on Sunday but had instead "came to say goodbye" Manchester united wish to seal a £60 million British record transfer for Ángel di María within the next 48 hours after the Argentine winger confirmed to Carlo Ancelotti, the Real Madrid coach, that he is to leave the European champions. Despite efforts by Florentino Pérez, the Real president, to increase Di María’s valuation to £75 million — just £5 million short of the world record fee received by United from Real for Cristiano Ronaldo in June 2009 – United are confident that a deal in the region of £60 million can be struck for the former Benfica player. With Louis van Gaal, the United manager, strongly determined to make further additions to his squad before the transfer deadline next Monday, the club are expected to pursue moves for the AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong and the Ajax defender Daley Blind once Di María has been secured. Arturo Vidal, the Juventus midfielder, is also a target, but with the Italian champions aiming to resist offers for the Chile international an £8 million move for the former Manchester City midfielder De Jong is regarded by Van Gaal as a contingency plan with the manager acknowledging the need for midfield reinforcements. However, after watching his team emerge from the Stadium of Light with a point following an uninspiring 1-1 draw against Sunderland, Van Gaal refused to elaborate on the timescale of Di María arriving to bolster his squad. “When a transfer has been finished, then we can say,” Van Gaal said. “But until then, we have to wait and see. It is not only Di Maria, maybe it is also Vidal and [Lionel] Messi. You cannot always sign everyone you like, but we are a big club.” Di María’s exit from Real, as good as confirmed earlier this summer by the £63 million signing of the Colombian midfielder James Rodríguez from Monaco, appears inevitable and imminent, however, following Ancelotti’s admission on Sunday that the 26-year-old had visited Real’s Valdebebas training ground to say farewell to his team-mates. “He has come and has not practised,” Ancelotti said. “It’s not official yet, but he came to say goodbye. We gave thanks for what he has done for this club and wish him luck for the future. It is not official, but it is solved. I have personally had a good relationship with him and did a fantastic job here. It was his decision to leave because the club did everything possible for him to stay by offering everything to him to stay.” While Real’s decision to sell Di María has been taken by Pérez, the club president is keen to take advantage of United’s desperation to make a statement of intent in the transfer market by pushing up the player’s price tag. Although a successful move for Di María would take United’s spending since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement to £196 million, the club’s owners, the Glazer family, continue to bear the brunt of supporter disaffection as the result of the perceived lack of investment in the team since their 2005 takeover. United have made it clear that they have money to spend – a declaration that has only served to inflate the valuations of targets – and Pérez believes he can still entice rival interest from Paris St-Germain and Manchester City in order to create a bidding war and force United to increase their offer. PSG, restricted by Uefa’s Financial Fair Play penalties, have withdrawn from the race to sign Di María on a permanent basis but retain an interest in completing a loan move. However, despite suggestions from the Real camp that City had attempted to sign Di María on loan ahead of a permanent move next summer in order to avoid falling foul of their own FFP penalty, the Premier League champions have instead insisted that they have turned down the chance to bid for the player having focused on signing defensive reinforcements this summer. United are likely to be active in the final week of the transfer window, however, with Di María leading the arrivals and potentially being signed in time to secure a work permit to make his debut at Burnley on Saturday. Danny Welbeck has been told he can leave Old Trafford, with Javier Hernández, Anderson, Shinji Kagawa and Tom Cleverley also facing uncertain futures at the club. Marcos Rojo, who completed a £16 million transfer from Sporting Lisbon last week, may be forced to wait until the weekend for his United debut with the Argentine defender unlikely to receive a work permit in time to face MK Dons in the Capital One Cup second-round tie at Stadium:mk on Tuesday.

scientists review new ways to process and analyze Big Data

Big Data challenges scientists with unfolding opportunities, including, for example, the possibility of discovering heterogeneous characteristics in the population leading to the development of personalized treatments and highly man per head services. But ever-expanding data sets introduce new challenges in terms of statistical analysis, bias sampling, computational costs, noise accumulation, spurious correlations, and measurement errors. In genomics we have observed a dramatic drop in price for whole genome sequencing," state Jianqing Fan and Han Liu, scientists at Princeton University, and Fang Han at Johns Hopkins. "This is also true in other areas such as social media analysis, biomedical imaging, high-frequency finance, analysis of surveillance videos and retail sales," they fish out in a paper titled "Challenges of Big Data analysis" published in the Beijing-based journal National Science Review. With the quickening pace of data collection and analysis, they add, "scientific advances are becoming more and more data-driven and researchers will more and more think of themselves as consumers of data." Increasingly complex data sets are emerging across the sciences. In the field of genomics, more than 500 000 microarrays are now publicly available, with each array containing tens of thousands of expression values of molecules; in biomedical engineering, tens of thousands of terabytes of functional magnetic resonance images have been produced, with each image containing more than 50 000 voxel values. Massive and high-dimensional data is also being gathered from social media, e-commerce, and surveillance videos. Expanding streams of social network data are being channeled and collected by Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube. This data, in turn, is being used to predict influenza epidemics, stock market trends, and box-office revenues for particular movies. The social media and Internet contain burgeoning information on consumer preferences, leading economic indicators, business cycles, and the economic and social states of a society. "It is anticipated that social network data will continue to explode and be exploited for many new applications," predict the co-authors of the study. New applications include ultra-individualized services. And in the area of Internet security, they add, "When a network-based attack occurs, historical data on network traffic may allow us to efficiently find out the source and targets of the attack." With Big Data emerging from many frontiers of scientific research and technological advances, researchers have focused on the development of new computational infrastructure and data-storage methods, of fast algorithms that are scalable to massive data with high dimensionality. "This forges cross-fertilization among different fields including statistics, optimization and applied mathematics," the scientists add. The massive sample sizes giving rise to Big Data fundamentally challenge the traditional computing infrastructure. "In many applications, we need to analyze Internet-scale data containing billions or even trillions of data points, which makes even a linear pass of the whole dataset unaffordable," the researchers point out. The basic approach to store and process such data is to divide and conquer. The idea is to partition a large problem into more tractable and independent sub-problems. Each sub- problem is tackled in parallel by different processing units. On a small scale, this divide-and-conquer strategy can be implemented either by multi-core computing or grid computing. On a larger scale, handling enormous arrays of data requires a new computing infrastructure that supports massively parallel data storage and processing. The researchers present Hadoop as an example of a basic software and programming infrastructure for Big Data processing. Alongside Hadoop's distributed file system, they review MapReduce, a programming model for processing large datasets in a parallel fashion, cloud computing, convex optimization, and random projection algorithms, which are specifically designed to meet Big Data's computational challenges. Hadoop is a Java-based software framework for distributed data management and processing. It contains a set of open source libraries for distributed computing using the MapReduce programming model and its own distributed file system called HDFS. Hadoop automatically facilitates scalability and takes cares of detecting and handling failures. HDFS is designed to host and provide high-throughput access to large datasets that are redundantly stored across multiple machines. It ensures Big Data's survivability and high availability for parallel applications. In terms of statistical analysis, Big Data presents another set of new challenges. Researchers tend to collect as many features of the samples as possible; as a result, these samples are commonly heterogeneous and high dimensional. High dimensionality brings new problems, including noise accumulation, spurious correlation, and incidental endogeneity. For instance, high dimensionality gives rise to spurious correlation. In studying the association between cancers and certain genomic and clinical factors, it might be possible that prostate cancer is highly correlated to an unrelated gene. However, such a high correlation could be explained by high dimensionality: In studies that include so many features, ranging from genomic information to height, weight and gender to favorite foods and sports, some high correlations emerge merely by chance.

Official announces hackers hit up to 25,000 US workers

The internal records of as many as 25,000 Homeland Security Department employees were discovered during a recent computer break-in at a federal contractor that handles security clearances, an agency official announced Friday. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the full details of an incident that is under active federal criminal investigation, said the number of victims can be greater. The department was informing the employees whose files were exposed in the hacking against contractor USIS and warning them to monitor their financial accounts. Earlier this month, USIS acknowledged the break-in, saying its internal cybersecurity team had find out what appeared to be an intrusion with "all the markings of a state-sponsored attack." Neither USIS nor government officials have speculated on the identity of the foreign government. A USIS spokeswoman reached Friday declined to comment on the DHS notifications. USIS, once known as U.S. Investigations Services, has been under criticism in Congress in recent months for its performance in conducting background checks on National Security Agency systems analyst Edward Snowden and on Aaron Alexis, a military contractor employee who killed 12 people during shootings at the Navy Yard in Washington in September 2013. Private contractors perform background checks on more than two-thirds of the 4.9 million government workers with security clearances, and USIS handles nearly half of that number. Many of those investigations are performed under contracts with the Office of Personnel Management, and the Homeland Security and Defense departments. It's not immediately clear when the hacking took place, but DHS notified all its employees internally on Aug. 6. At that point, DHS issued "stop-work orders" preventing further information flows to USIS until the agency was confident the company could safeguard its records. At the same time, OPM temporarily halted all USIS background check fieldwork "out of an abundance of caution," spokeswoman Jackie Koszczuk said. Officials would not say whether workers from other government agencies were at risk. DHS will provide workers affected by the intrusion with credit monitoring. The risk to as many as 25,000 DHS workers was first reported Friday by Reuters. A cybersecurity expert, Rick Dakin, said the possibility that other federal departments could be affected depends on whether the DHS records were "segmented," or walled off, from other federal agencies' files inside USIS. "The huge question is what degree of segmentation was already in place so that other agencies weren't equally compromised," said Dakin, chief executive of Coalfire, a major IT audit and compliance firm.

Five Secrets Of Google You Need to Know

Google’s Zerg Rush If you don’t know, Zerg Rush is a gaming term that can describes a massive attack from enemy forces. Experimental drugs and vaccines for Ebola

With hundreds of cases of Ebola in Africa, a panel of World Health Organization (WHO) experts has declared it is ethical to use experimental drugs in this current outbreak. What is the current treatment for Ebola? There is no licensed treatment or vaccine for the Ebola virus for now. Hospital treatment is based on giving patients intravenous fluids to stop dehydration and antibiotics to fight infections. Strict medical infection control and rapid burial are regarded as the best means of prevention. What about experimental treatments? Several experimental treatments for Ebola had being developed, which have shown promising results in monkeys when given up to five days after infection. However, they have not been tested in more than a handful of people and none has been licensed. Health Protection Research Unit in Emerging and Zoonotic infections. The treatment is a mixture of three monoclonal antibodies that attack proteins on the surface of the virus. Another experimental drug, developed by Tekmira Pharmaceuticals in Canada, has been tested on monkeys and in a handful of healthy human volunteers. The drug, TKM-Ebola, is designed to target strands of genetic material of the virus (RNA). The drug interrupts the genetic code of the virus and prevents it from making disease-causing proteins. A small early safety trial on a small number of human volunteers was put on hold last month when regulators requested further safety data. The Fcompany is hopeful that it may get the go-ahead to continue the trial and is willing to make the drug available. The US-based pharmaceutical company, Sarepta Therapeutics, has developed a similar RNA treatment. It has been tested in healthy human volunteers in early safety trials, but has never been tried in a human patient. What is serum? Serum - the part of the blood that contains antibodies that can target and neutralise the disease - has been used in past Ebola outbreaks. Survivors have high levels of antibodies against the virus in their blood. In one outbreak in 1995 in the Democratic Republic of Congo, seven out of eight patients survived after being treated with serum from survivors, according to Prof Solomon. The WHO says serum could be used as a potential treatment in this current outbreak if methods are developed to collect and administer it safely. What other approaches are being tried? Scientists have been working on a number of prototype vaccines against Ebola. The WHO says further trials would start soon and potential vaccines may be available in 2016.
(The natural host for the virus is the fruit bat) The Food and Drug Administration in the US says it is fast-tracking a vaccine that has shown encouraging signs in monkeys for phase 1 trials in September. This type of trial is the earliest study in humans and aims to make sure that drugs are safe and show some chance of working. What are the chances of success? Experts say pharmaceutical companies are unlikely to invest the huge resources needed to develop new drugs when these would probably be used only occasionally in relatively small numbers of people. They say investment is needed from international agencies to have any realistic chance of success in the future.

Research shows how buildings can better generate and retain energy

A PhD student at the Environment and Sustainability Institute (ESI) on the University of Exeter's Penryn Campus has announced the research whose aim is to help improve the efficiency and performance of Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BiPV) systems. BiPV systems are increasingly important; their photovoltaic – PV – power is generated close to where it's consumed, so it's well combined into the building's architecture and, having no distance to travel, loses little power on the way. However, the technology may be expensive and less efficient than it might be, which is where Hasan Baig's research can make a contribution. He's experimenting with Building Integrated Concentrated Photovoltaic (BICPV) systems: these concentrate sunlight and could integrate well in the building architecture. Specifically, Hasan and Dr. Nabin Sarmah have been experimenting with ways to improve the performance of these systems by adding a reflective film along the edges of the concentrator to capture the escaping rays and minimise optical losses. Use of the film appears to increase the system's average power output and reduce heat loss, potentially representing important energy savings and cost benefits. In addition, the experiments showed improvements in light conversion efficiency to increase the triple benefit (light, heat and electricity) within the building. Hasan says "Buildings are one of the bigest consumers of energy; designing energy generation systems which can integrate well with their architecture could have a very large impact on reducing our future energy needs". His research supervisor, Professor Tapas Mallick, Chair in Clean Technologies (Renewable Energy) at the ESI adds "The South West has 20 per cent more solar energy available compared to the rest of UK; if such technology were applied to 50 per cent of south west England's existing buildings, it will actually meet the energy demands for two-thirds of those buildings".

How To Use Ladies Mantle To Restore Lost Virginity

This is how to use Ladies Mantle to restore virginity and make the breast look like an apple. But before I let you know it , do you know what Ladies Mantle is? If your answer is no, then you know it now. Ladies Mantle is a kind of plant that is used to restore virginity and make the breast look like an apple, in the sense that it tightens the lower part when used either internally or externally. And also make the breast look like an apple. Preparation and Usage: Internally (1)Decoction with 40to60 grams of leaves and ground roots per liter of water boil for at least for 10 minutes then drink three to four cups daily for a good period of time until you see change. (2) Externally, using it to treat vaginal irrigations (1) with a well strained liquid (soaking a towel into a liquid of a mixture of it) resulting from a more concentrated decoction than that of internal use, in a portion of some 100grams per liter of water (2) Gargle. This means to wash inside of your mouth and throat by moving a liquid around, at the back of your throat and then you spit it out. Then squeeze the soaked towel which was soaked in the concentration of it, then you wash the affected skin part with liquid from the concentration.

The benefits involved in taking high level of chocolate

High levels of chocolate consumption might relate with a one third reduction in the risk of developing heart disease, suggests a study published online in the British Medical Journal. The findings confirm results of existing studies that generally agree on a potential beneficial link between chocolate consumption and heart health. However, the authors stress that further studies are needed to test whether chocolate actually causes this reduction or if it can be explained by some other unmeasured (confounding) factor. The findings were presented at the European Society of Cardiology Congress in Paris. The World Health Organisation predicts that by 2030, nearly 23.6 million people will die from heart disease. However, lifestyle and diet are key factors in preventing heart disease, says the paper. A number of recent studies have shown that eating chocolate has a positive influence on human health due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. This includes reducing blood pressure and improving insulin sensitivity (a stage in the development of diabetes). However, the evidence about how eating chocolate affects your heart still remains unclear. So, Dr Oscar Franco and colleagues from the University of Cambridge carried out a large scale review of the existing evidence to evaluate the effects of eating chocolate on cardiovascular events like heart attack and stroke. They analysed the results of seven studies, involving over 100,000 participants with and without existing heart disease. For each study, they compared the group with the highest chocolate consumption against the group with the lowest consumption. Differences in study design and quality were also taken into account to minimise bias. Five studies reported a beneficial link between higher levels of chocolate consumption and the risk of cardiovascular events. They found that the "highest levels of chocolate consumption were associated with a 37% reduction in cardiovascular disease and a 29% reduction in stroke compared with lowest levels." No significant reduction was found in relation to heart failure. The studies did not differentiate between dark or milk chocolate and included consumption of chocolate bars, drinks, biscuits and desserts. The authors say the findings need to be interpreted with caution, in particular because commercially available chocolate is very calorific (around 500 calories for every 100 grams) and eating too much of it could lead to weight gain, risk of diabetes and heart disease. However, they conclude that given the health benefits of eating chocolate, initiatives to reduce the current fat and sugar content in most chocolate products should be explored.

Chinese man accused of hacking for US defense data

A federal grand jury has charged a Chinese businessman with a computer hacking scheme to steal information on military projects, which also includes fighter jets, to sell to Chinese companies. City News Service says Su Bin was acused on Thursday of charges of conspiracy and unauthorized computer access. He faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted. Prosecutors say Su, working with two other Chinese, hacked the computers of defense contractors, including Boeing, and stole trade secrets on projects including the C-17 military transport and the F-22 and F-35 fighter jets. They're accused of trying to sell the information to state-owned Chinese companies. Su is held in Canada, where he was arrested in June. It's not clear whether he has an attorney. The indictment replaces earlier federal charges against him.

The use of less than fully tested drugs to treat Ebola can now be verified...

Desperate times requires measures, and the situation in West Africa unquestionably needs to be put into that category. So far, more than 1,000 people have died as a result of the worst known outbreak of the Ebola virus. In response, the World Health Organisation (WHO) took the unprecedented move this week to announce that experimental drugs and treatments, “with as-yet-unknown efficacy and side effects”, could be used on patients who have contracted the disease."Ebola virus" A panel of medical experts in Geneva concluded ,that victims facing a 70 or 80 per cent mortality rate, the Hippocratic oath to “do no harm” was insufficient reason to prevent desperate men and women from taking advantage of risky but potentially life-saving medicines. Their decision to overrule the central principles of Western drug safety – that nothing can be used on humans without a process of trials often lasting more than a decade – was clearly not taken lightly. Neigther should the layman object to it in principle. Put crudely, when your other option is a likely death, there’s little to be lost in submitting to a regimen that medical researchers at least tentatively believe may do some good. Nevertheless, the introduction of a small supply of drugs and vaccines into a situation as precarious as that in Western Africa, where several nations have already announced states of emergency, brings its own questions. There was uproar when two US aid workers who contracted the virus in Liberia were flown back to America and dosed with ZMapp, an experimental treatment never before taken by humans. Why did they receive special treatment when the overwhelming majority of the victims are African men and women? There is a reasonable answer to that, at least in the short term: the drug was produced with the help of funds from the US Department of Defence, so it is to be expected that the first patients to use it fall within the citizenry of the United States. Furthermore, had the medication been a disastrous failure – using it first on, say, Liberian men and women – there would likely have been the accusation that this was a case of a rich nation being prepared to treat men and women from a poor one as human guinea pigs. In the longer term, however, the inequalities behind the spread of this disease are glaring. That no vaccine or cure has so far been brought to market is related to its status as an African problem. More money goes into fighting baldness and erectile dysfunction than haemorrhagic fevers of the sort that rarely spread into the developed world. Private companies, which provide the majority of research funding, have little interest in ploughing funds into a disease that primarily affects poor communities. Many will recall the attempt by Western pharmaceutical companies to prevent Indian firms from producing a generic version of their antiretroviral treatments at the turn of this century, thereby putting profit above the lives of millions of African sufferers of Aids. Today’s announcement that Canada will donate 1,000 doses of an experimental vaccine to the WHO further ramped up hopes of a medical solution to this crisis. In truth, the best way to ease the epidemic will not be found in Western laboratories: the quantities of available drugs are too small at this stage, and the pipeline too slow, even if safety regulations have been brushed aside. Better to concentrate on what can be done in the here and now: that is, isolate known patients, trace their contacts, and inform communities about how Ebola travels from person to person. A silver bullet will not take down the virus. Logistics have the ability to save many more lives.

Microsoft Research converts 2D camera into depth sensor

Microsoft Research at SIGGRAPH 14 made news this week with its presentation of how to convert a regular video camera into a depth camera. "Learning to be a depth camera for close-range human capture and interaction" was presented by the research team, which represented Microsoft Research and the iCub facility at the Italian Institute of Technology.(Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia). In short, as described in MIT Technology Review, "Microsoft researchers say simple hardware changes and machine learning techniques makes a regular smartphone camera work as a depth sensor." The team attention was on hands and faces; they inproved the camera on a smartphone to capture hands and faces depth. "We present a machine learning technique for estimating absolute, per-pixel depth using any conventional monocular 2D camera, with minor hardware modifications. Our approach targets close-range human capture and interaction where dense 3D estimation of hands and faces is needed," said the authors. They used hybrid classification-regression forests to learn how to map from near infrared intensity images to absolute, metric depth in realtime. As their video shows, they illustrated the results with varied human-computer interactions. One of the contributions their paper makes, they said, is that "We praticalised a new technique for turning a cheap color or monochrome camera into a depth sensor, for close-range human capture and interaction." After all, they said, "Whilst depth cameras are becoming more of a commodity, they have yet to (and arguably will never) surpass the ubiquity of regular 2D cameras, which are now used in the majority of our mobile devices and desktop computers." The researchers also said, "Our hope is to allow practitioners to more rapidly prototype depth-based applications in a variety of new contexts." Two hardware designs for depth sensing were presented: an inproved web camera for desktop depth sensing, in addition to a modified cellphone camera for mobile applications. They demonstrated efficient and accurate hand and face tracking in both scenarios.Describing how their approach worked, they said they devised an algorithm that learns the correlation between pixel intensities and absolute depth measurements. The algorithm is implemented on conventional color or monochrome cameras. The hardware modifications required were removal of any near infrared (NIR) cut filter (typically used in regular RGB sensors), and the addition of a bandpass filter and low-cost LEDs, both operating in a narrow NIR range. Nonetheless, the authors stated that the method they explained in the technical paper is not for a general-purpose depth camera. "Whilst this method cannot replace commodity depth sensors for general use, our hope is that it will enable 3D face and hand sensing and interactive systems in novel contexts,"

Make thousands Of Dollars Using Easy Corporate Money Programme (Part5)

wellcome back, if you are one of those who is opportuned to read this manual know now, that you are one to two steps to become a million dollar earner so feel good.As the journey continues here. But who in their right mind would stop there? You know this window of opportunity will close at some point, not quickly but in the coming years the traffic WILL dwindle, but that isn't a problem, because we have the power of that leverage to get our $1 million quick and relax. All the while you are collecting $1400 dollars a week and it grows by on average $700 a week every 3 weeks and re-using that same $3000 initial investment. But let's say now, as you get very confident and know how this works, you decide to buy 10,000 articles. Sounds risky, that is a $30,000 dollar outlay. But you recognize after 2 months of continuous income that this, providing you pay attention to the important levers, you will easily not be losing any money. A 12,000 strong article inventory will bring in on average $1200 a day or around $430,000 this financial year. So again at $8400 a week plus the woosh, your $30,000 will be returned to you within 3 weeks. Now earning over $8000 a week and recognizing you will see this money for at least the next 12 months and quite easily 2 years, with a nice trailing income over the following 2 to 5 years after that, you may be starting to think about a holiday or maybe a new Porsche. Financial security is such a lovely thing, but the knowledge you possess is even nicer. Knowing at any time, you can get for yourself as much money as you need is a marvellously emancipating experience and gives life confidence. Knowing if all was taken away from you this day, you could quite easily and without a problem, make it all happen all over again to any level of income you so require. THATS the power of this system. Lets delve in a little further and map out some details. (The Details) The figures above are based on the Easy Corporate Money Program as your prime product, we cannot tell you how this would work if you chose another product on the clickbank marketplace, because we don’t know their conversion rates. The figures are derived from millions of visitors which makes the figures extremely viable and solid. If I was quoting you those figures from a small sample over just a few months, you would be forgiven for being sceptical. But knowing this is a substantial sample and the averages are rock solid should already be putting a smile on your face. You will need to read the rest of this "The how to guide" and watch all the videos to find out about "Clickbank" and the corporations offering you their products and where to sign up and where to browse the stock that is available to you. We encourage you to consider all your options when doing this investment strategy. But I can tell you without a doubt, you are best served and in the most prime of positions to use this very package as your first project. You don't even need any others because unlike other niches that are small, this niche (the “how to make money” niche) is vast and can easily handle 100's of millions of articles. All you need is 10,000 to 40,000 to make that $1 million dollars real quick. (Depending on your baseline result, the lever) Here is a compelling reason why you should use the Easy Corporate Money Program as your first project in this investment model. Because we will help you! As it stands we have no intensive support for members, the money paid is just for the information as is. There is plenty of information here for anyone who can read and write English to comprehend and put into practice what you are about to learn. But if you do use our program as your first project, we will bend over backwards, in fact we have dedicated support for all members that want to do this investment strategy. If you want to do adwords or write the articles yourself, you are welcome to do it. But if you are prepared come on board using this incredible investment strategy we will bend over backwards to make sure you succeed. If you buy 100 articles in the first week, for $300 you will make on average $100 dollars every 7 days and get your money back in around 3 weeks. (includes the initial woosh) Here is a table based on our substantial data which you can trust completely in terms of the averages. 100 = $300 dollars = $100 every 7 days ($300 -3 weeks including woosh) 500 = $1500 dollars = $500 every 7 days ($1500 -3 weeks including woosh) 1000 = $3000 dollars = $1000 every 7 days ($3000 -3 weeks including woosh) Dont forget, that means passive ongoing income, not just getting your money back but continuos for the next few years and beyond. I urge you to start at 500 articles and build up to 10,000 as quickly as you can, but ultimately the decision is yours and you should start with what you are comfortable with. You could even write the articles yourself to start with if you wish to save money and if you have the time. At 20 articles a day you could write 500 articles in 25 days. If you have written an essay at school and can use a spell checker you can write the articles yourself with no problems. But for volume, you will need to buy them from professionals and that brings us to is a market place where professional writers come to find work and you can post your project for 1000 articles or 10,000 articles and the writers will bid. These people are incredibly professional and once you take 10 minutes to post your project, you can sit back and relax as the bids come in within minutes of it going live. By the next day you will have 5 to 10 eager writers offering their services. Simple right? It is!!! The goal is to put together 12,000 articles which will give you $1200 dollars a day for the foreseeable future. This can be done easily within 6 weeks by anyone remotely serious. After a break, a holiday, quitting your day job, you should come back to it fresh and devote another 20 weeks to bring together another 30,000 articles and that, if you have done it correctly, will be enough to set you up for life. It will, I promise YOU, will be all the work you will ever have to do for the rest of your life! If you want to be filthy rich you may want to increase your inventory to 100,000 or even bigger, and this can easily be done by training a few staff and setting up an office to do it for you while you holiday. But, if you are the type of person that is not really that ambitious but would like to solve the money question in your life forever, now is the time to act. Do this and your life will change forever. Thank me with a nice Bentley for my 50th birthday :) Or don't, I can buy my own Bentley's, but you owe me nothing anyway, it is up to you to understand this and put it into practice and once you do, the rewards are all yours. Google and Asian firms are laying US-Japan underwater cable

Google is partnering with five Asian telecom firms are to build a $300 million underwater cable across the Pacific Ocean in a bid to meet surging Internet use. The project, named FASTER, will see the 9,000-kilometre (5,600 mile) fibre-optic cable stretch from two points in Japan to the United States, with extensions to other Asian locations later on, the companies said. In the US, the cable would be extended to link major cities on the west coast including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle, they said. There are several hundred underwater telecom cables that connect various points in the world. But "the FASTER cable system has the bigest design capacity ever built on the Trans-Pacific route, which is one of the longest routes in the world", Woohyong Choi, chairman of the project's executive committee, said in the statement. Also involved in the project are Japanese mobile carrier KDDI, China Mobile International, China Telecom Global, Malaysia's Global Transit, and Singapore's SingTel, the statement said. Japan's NEC would build the system, which is expected to come into service in the first half of 2016, the firms said. Google has been involved in similar projects before, including a 2008 deal to build an ultra-high-speed submarine cable to carry Internet and other traffic between Japan and the United States.

Make thousands Of Dollars Using Easy Corporate Money Programme (Part4)

Last week we were able to cover at least, some useful part of this ebook. so we will continue from where we stopped here. With, a typical article will get an initial woosh of traffic, it is this woosh that is so important to this investment model, because it helps quickly get your initial investment back so it can be re-used. But of course as you are aware, the article also continues to deliver over the coming years and beyond, so you get your time leverage factor. Look at it like this, if all you have to do is buy 1000 articles to make an average of $1400 dollars the first week, (the woosh) then around $700 dollars a week from then on for the next few years, it will take approximately 3 weeks to get back your $3000 dollar investment (1400+700+700=2800 approx 3000). The following week you will make an average of $700 a week and from then on. So for an investment of $3000 even if you don't re-invest that money any further, you have created a passive income of $35,000 a year ($700*52 weeks= approx $35k) What we are actually giving you financial security, wealth, for life. Within 6 weeks you can potentially quit your day job and by 4 to 6 months, you can make your first million or much more depending on how ambitious you want to be. But lets say, instead of being happy with that initial $35,000 income that will come fairly reliably for at least a couple of years and if you are fortunate, may last even longer, you decide when that $3000 comes back to you, in 3 weeks, that you buy another 1000 articles. You now are making $1400 dollars a week, you get your money back in another 3 weeks and within 6 weeks, you can literally quit your day job because now, with little work on your part, you have created a $70,000 dollar income. Here we stop for today. To be continued next time, feel free to ask any question about this ebook thanks...

Make thousands Of Dollars Using Easy Corporate Money Programme (Part3)

Here we continue from where we stopped. Based on our concrete historical data, each article you buy for $3 on average is worth $33 dollars to you over 12 months to 2 years. This is a rock solid metric. Some articles will be worth almost nothing to you, while other articles will be worth $3000 to you in 2 months!, but if you do an average, the total comes to around $33 dollars so long as you pay strict attention to the lever point and get a return of 30% on article inventory volume in your baseline. So an inventory of around 40,000 articles will give you around $1 million dollars over the next 12 months to 2 years. An inventory of 40,000 articles can be done, without actually coming up with the money upfront, but buying as you earn, can be created within 20 weeks, once you iron out the bugs. These writers are all prolific on and can easily supply you with all the quality inventory you need as quickly as you want. Just stay with the English speaking writers as the grammar of most of the non English speaking writers is quite unacceptable. (Elance provides a small flag icon that designates where a member is from) So what we invest in is an inventory of articles that permanently deliver interested visitors on a daily and yearly basis...and a percentage of those people make a purchase of your affiliated chosen product. Short articles on a specific topic. (280 words) You can invest at any level you feel comfortable investing. Most of our members, once they understand what you are about to learn will start at $500 or 165 articles (approx). When you start, you will see quickly that it pays and the $500 dollar investment is quickly back in your pocket. But why start so steep? Test the waters first...write 100 articles yourself over a few weeks. In fact this is direct your staff that you find on elance, you need to be a little experienced first, so why not write your own articles yourself, its free and its good for your overall prospects because you learn the ropes...after 100 articles you will quickly know, have a gut instinct about what's required and put that in your brief outline. I give you tips so keep reading. But there is an industry secret... If you tried to start a website yourself to publish this inventory of articles..., you would immediately learn about the google sandbox. This is a kind of no mans land that google put you in until your site shows some credibility and life (interest from others) which can last from 6 months to a year. Also it is very complicated making your own website and the competition is ridiculously fierce. We have to put those pages of writing somewhere on the web and the only place on the whole world wide web that we know of that this investment strategy will work is on We look at this website (ezinearticles) as a distributor of our investment. You can submit 100 articles tonight and by tomorrow you will have instant targeted traffic. This is the point of our investment, traffic. Targeted traffic converts into passive income. But further than that. (through listings on google) will continue to send you traffic for years to come from articles you bought or created today. The traffic will gradually fade as the years go by, but as stated, all we need is a certain window of opportunity (in our case, 12 months to 2 years of solid traffic) to create a mountain of instant and passive income that can be rapidly added to and add up to the ultimate goal of a $1 or $2 million dollar bank deposit. A bank deposit being the safest and ultimate investment, we can then live on the interest in comfort. Several of our partners are already doing this. Although I am not saying your income will stop after 2 years...its been 5 years now and we all are still getting solid income and internet targeted traffic. To be continued next time...

Google has agreed to pay $250 million to fight illegal online pharmacies

Google has agreed in a court settlement to spend not less than $250 million over the next five years to aid in fighting illegal online pharmacies selling to US customers, documents revealed Friday. The US Internet search giant made the commitment in settling a lawsuit from shareholders alleging Google failed to take adequate measures to prevent foreign online pharmacies from using its advertising network. The lawsuit was filed in 2011 after Google paid a sum of $500 million settlement to the US government in respect of the charges it sold advertisements to Canada-based online pharmacies which marketed drugs to Americans in violation of US law. In a settlement filed in federal court in California, Google agreed to spend at least $50 million per each year in each of the coming five years on "product quality operations, policy enforcement, and user safety initiative" to prevent the ads from appearing. Google said its audit committee would build a plan "to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations" and to prevent the advertising of pharmaceuticals and supplements which violate the law running through its AdWords platform. In the settlement with the US government, authorities said the online pharmacies from Canada often use Google's Adwords programs, which deliver ads based on a user's browsing history and search queries, from 2003 to 2009.

Make thousands Of Dollars Using Easy Corporate Money Programme (Part2)

I think, for those of you who have come across this manual you can see the big value of it. so here we peak it up.So what we need is a way of using leverage to accumulate that sort of money so it can be used to live on for life and even look after your kids and grand kids when you are gone. This type of money is very useful and $2 million dollars put in a bank at 7% interest, you can easily live on. It would total $140,000 a year or nearly $3000 a week. Anybody can comfortably live on that money and you have the $2 million incase of a rainy day on top of that. A remarkably comfortable situation to be in! So the way to get this money is to use some form of leverage. In our case we are using time leverage. We have in this investment method, time leverage as a component because the income lasts for over 2 to 5 years or more (in fact I cannot say decades..because I have not been making money online for over a decade, but these legs of income I created way back in 2005 are still today strong as ever). That is long enough to quickly build up a massive income stream that can be saved and ultimately used to live on from bank interest. This investment peaks immediately which means you get your investment capital back quickly, then tapers off to a baseline that you can add to and build on. This is important, the fact that it peaks immediately means you can retrieve your $500 dollar investment or $1000 or even $5000 dollar investment within a week to three weeks and re-use it. So the income keeps coming in... way after you have already retrieved your initial investment and in this way it can be added to. What this means is that if you start with $1000 dollars this week, in the next few weeks you have already got that $1000 dollars back to be re-used. However, every week that you re-use the investment at the same level, you keep adding to that baseline. That means over time, you have actually made this long term passive income stream from money out of thin air. This is a remarkable feat and you are about to see how this is done. You are re-using that same thousand dollars every week, but the baseline keeps building and adding every week that you invest. That means soon you will be earning $5000 dollars a week and still have that original $1000 still in your pocket. You cannot find anything better than this and if you pay attention to the lever points of the system as discussed in the following pages, you cannot fail. Even if you tried to fail you couldn't fail. The System It is no surprise on the internet, that what the internet is made up of most is pages of writing. This creative work is provided by people that have discovered a way to make money from the pages. The writing has to be original work and not copied and pasted from elsewhere, that is a big thing. Often the work does not have to be of a remarkable standard, but it does have to be original and fairly free from grammar and spelling mistakes. What we do, is buy this creative work from writers that are willing to sell us the work for 10 or 30 cents in the dollar. Specifically, the page of writing they may be willing to do for $3 dollars per 280 words and because we pay them upfront, they are happy with that money. But to us, this short page of writing that was freshly written and original, is worth much more over the long term. To be continued next time...

Tiny chip mimics brain, gives out supercomputer speed

Researchers Thursday unveiled a powerful new postage-stamp size chip giving out supercomputer performance using a process that mimics the human brain. The so-called "neurosynaptic" chip is a breakthrough that opens a very wide new range of computing possibilities out comes from self-driving cars to artificial intelligence systems that can installed on a smartphone, the scientists say. The researchers from IBM, Cornell Tech and collaborators from around the world said they took an entirely new approach in design compared with previous computer architecture, moving toward a system called "cognitive computing." "We have taken inspiration from the cerebral cortex to design this chip," said IBM chief scientist for brain-inspired computing, Dharmendra Modha, referring to the command center of the brain. He said existing computers trace their lineage back to machines from the 1940s which are essentially "sequential number-crunching calculators" that perform mathematical or "left brain" tasks but little else. The new chip dubbed "TrueNorth" works to mimic the "right brain" functions of sensory processing—responding to sights, smells and information from the environment to "learn" to respond in different situations, Modha said. It accomplishes this task by using a huge network of "neurons" and "synapses," similar to how the human brain functions by using information gathered from the body's sensory organs. The researchers designed TrueNorth with one million programmable neurons and 256 million programmable synapses, on a chip with 4,096 cores and 5.4 billion transistors. A key to the performance is the extremely low energy use on the new chip, which runs on the equivalent energy of a hearing-aid battery.

Hidden Android Secret Codes For Motorola, HTC, Samsung, Sony, LG And Other Devices

One of the most known practices among software developers is to leave ‘backdoors’ within the code, which is designed to allow anyone with knowledge to get into the system at a much deeper level than you’d expect from an end-user. These backdoors aren’t always with a malicious intent; most of the time, they allow the OEM or programmer to get into the system to troubleshoot a problem, usual modes of access have been blocked. They can be quite friendly and helpful if you know what you’re doing. Mobile phones have a good part of these as well, where they’re generally known as secret codes. Most of the time, these numeric/symbolic sequences allow you to access hidden menus, diagnostic tests, areas that could change some of the most basic parameters of your device and whatnot. These secret codes, in short, have not been count out to mobilephones, but have long been a part of the dumb-phones and then the feature-phones before most major OEMs joined the mobile phone bandwagon. For those devices that run Android, certain codes are shared across the board, and hence, can be used on a variety of devices. What follows is a collection of some of the secret codes common to the Android platform. All of these would be entered through the phone dialer (just punch in the sequence as shown). Since most hidden menus are manufacturer specific, there’s no guarantee that they’ll work across all Android smartphones, but you can try them out nevertheless on your Samsung, HTC, Motorola, Sony and other devices. Social network challenges end in tragedy

Online challenges daring people to put themselves ablaze or douse themselves in ice water are breaking up casualties and fueling wonder regarding idiocy in the Internet age.
US media reported that a teenager was recovering on Friday from second-degree burns caused by pouring rubbing alcohol on himself and igniting it in a take on a dangerous "fire challenge" shown in videos posted at YouTube and Facebook. A glance online at Twitter posts with hashtag #firechallenge showed a video clip of a young man apparently setting fire to himself in a bathtub, only to fall out in a desperate scramble to douse the flames and remove his burning shorts. "Are humans getting more stupid or is this just my perception?" a Twitter user asked rhetorically in a post with the same hashtag. "You've got to be a complete #dumbass to set yourself on fire for five minutes of fame," another member of the one-to-many message service contended in a different post. An array of people who took part in a lively online exchange sparked by the teenager's self-inflicted burns argued that it could be natural selection playing out on the Internet stage. News outlets in Germany earlier this week reported that a man there was crushed to death by a large piece of digging machinery being used to take part in another Facebook craze called the "cold water challenge." A huge bucket holding thousands of liters of water was being hoisted to dump on a small group of men when the digger toppled, killing one of them and injuring five others, according to reports. It was said to be the latest in a series of fatalities related to the cold water challenge. The challenge has spread on Facebook, with friends calling on one another to brave being doused, or plunging into, frigid water. Those challenged are called on to donate money to charity if they fail to complete it within a day.

Qi wireless charging standard offers more design freedom

Wireless charging is getting a new technology treatment that offers more design freedom. The Wireless Power Consortium's advance in its Qi wireless charging standard means that phones and chargers will no longer need to come into direct contact, .said Ars Technica on Thursday. The Qi 1.2 chargers are expected to show up later this year and into 2015, On Thursday, the WPC announced "advances to the resonant extension of the Qi specification," giving users the option to embed wireless chargers deeper in structures, such as furniture and desktops, or use direct-contact surface applications. Menno Treffers, chairman of the WPC, said this also meant backward compatibility with products already in the market WPC's spec is to give support for resonant charging. With version 1.2, explained Engadget, "the addition of resonance charging to Qi's wireless-resonance-charging/ features "makes it so the receiver (the device that needs to be charged) and the transmitter (the charging pad or surface that's pushing the power to the device) won't need to physically touch each other anymore;" and can be up to 45mm (1.77 inches) apart. According to the WPC, "Q1.1 receivers based on inductive v1.1 specification and charging at a Z-height of 7 mm, are now capable being charged at a Z-height of 30 mm." The consortium also said that "New magnetic resonance v1.2 receivers can now be charged at Z-height of 45mm, expecting further Z-Height in final production designs." The Qi standard's step to further progress means considerable opportunities for those industry players who can take that design freedom and run with it. Andrew Cunningham in Ars Technica noted the possibilities for companies that want to build Qi support into their products. The WPC says that Qi chargers can now be embedded within tables and desks rather than placed on the surface, and low power transmitter designs will make it easier to build Qi chargers into cars. In December 2008, a group of electronics companies created the Wireless Power Consortium to establish Qi, an open standard, as an interoperable global standard for wireless power. Among its members have been, to name a few, Foxconn, LG, Microsoft, Motorola, Nokia, Panasonic, Qualcomm, Samsung, Sony, Texas Instruments, Toshiba, and groups, such as wireless operators, furniture and automotive parts manufacturers. Qi (sounds like "chee") is designed as a standard for compatible wireless charging. "By approaching mass integration of wireless power through this method, many questions, including supply chain considerations, price point, device and infrastructure integration, efficiency, safety and range of power needs can all be addressed collectively," said the group.
